Race Report
DUTY CREW: D.O. Steve Mc Clelland & R.O. Kevin Norton
Time for one race only.
Early Gusty Northerlies were not conducive to racing so a delayed start from 13:00 to 15:00 hrs when the forecast more favourable. A further delay of 20 mins to get boats on the water. Wind 8 gusting occasionally to 13/15 knots. Winds eased further as time progressed.
The first mark was laid and the windward mark on a bearing of 3570 virtually due North. The Gybe or Wing Mark was NQR but wind well placed to benefit boats.
Close start with Laing in the Laser Radial leading the others. Lloyd in the Club Pacer moved directly to Gybe or Wing Mark before tacking down to the Wind Ward Mark but now close behind Ron Yeo in Penny Lane (Pacer) and Laing leading the way.
The race saw distances between boats gradually open but as the race progressed so the competition began as skills really started to consolidate. Ron Yeo crossing the finish line second only 1 minute 15 seconds behind Laing and CBH listing sums up the aggressive spirit shown over the duration of the course.
Well Done all sailors - FIRST RACE of the Season – HEAT 4; Finally on the WATER!
